Our Sandy Loam Soil Grows Better Sod!

Emerald Sod Farms was incorporated in 1987, and our farm included the purchase of 410 acres just northeast of the Denver International Airport along Box Elder Creek.  Our farm location is convenient to Denver and cities around Denver like Aurora, Westminster, Thornton, and Centennial.  We were lucky enough to find this farm property that had good water and great soil for growing turfgrass sod.  It’s a sandy loam soil that everyone wants — especially for golf courses and sports fields — but also for homeowners.  Our sandy loam soil makes it easier for our grass to grow and the grass rhizomes to run and propagate.  The sandy loam also allows water from rain and your sprinklers to pass easily to your lawn root system.  When laid in your home lawn or an athletic field or golf course, it doesn’t create a thatching layer as heavier soils will do.  We were especially blessed to find this farm so close to Denver — it’s a wonderful farm to grow top-quality turfgrass sod.  Emerald Sod Farms is inspected annually and our sod is certified weed and disease free by the Colorado Department of Agriculture.  Call us at 303-654-0202 for help with your next project.

Our Turfgrass Is Delivered Fresh

We do not precut grass.  We want to give it to the customer has fresh as possible.  We’d like at least 24 hours notice of your order so that we can plan to harvest your sod as late as possible before you pick it up at our farm or we deliver it to you.  If you tell us you need your sod order in the morning, we will harvest your grass as late as possible the evening before.  If you need your sod in the afternoon, we’ll harvest the turfgrass to fill your order that morning.  If someone comes out to our farm to pick up sod, they may have to wait a few minutes but it will be fresh.  You can be assured that Emerald Sod Farms grass has not been sitting around for three days in the parking lot of your local big-box store.  Our grass is ready to go.

We discount the grass that you pick up on our farm because we know that it costs you money to drive out and pick up the grass, and we want to be fair with the people who do that.  We sell as little as one roll, which is 10 square feet of grass.  A pallet of grass is 540 square feet.

Our motto is that the size of the job doesn’t matter!  We’ve provided sod for home putting greens and sod for golf course projects as large as four and a half million square feet.  In fact, we were the first sod farm to ever solid-sod an entire golf course.  Emerald Sod Farms is honored to be proving the sod for the renovation of Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, and this project will be around 4 million square feet.
