Steps to Ordering Your Sod
1. Measure the area where your sod will be located
2. Choose your sod type from our selection of high-quality sods
3. Determine whether you will need delivery or want to pick up your sod
4. Determine whether you will want help with sod installation or will be installing sod yourself
How to Measure for Sod
You will want to be sure you measure correctly where your sod is to be installed. The area should be measured in square feet for best accuracy. Below we have detailed how to get the most precise measurement based on the shape of the area to be sodded.
Rectangle or square measurements
In order to best determine the amount of sod needed for a rectangle or square area, measure the length and the width in feet, and multiply the two numbers.
Example: length is 10’ and width is 25’: 10 x 25 = 250 square feet of sod should be purchased
Triangle measurements
When calculating a triangle’s measurement, measure the base and the height in feet, then multiply the two numbers and divide your answer by two.
Example: base is 10’ and height is 25’: 10 x 25 = 250 ÷ 2 = 125 square feet of sod should be purchased
Circle measurements
When determining the amount of sod needed for a circular area, first find the radius of the circle by measuring from the center of the circle to its edge, then multiply 3.14 by that number and then by that number again.
Example: radius is 10’: 3.14 x 102 = 3.14 x 100 = 314 square feet of sod should be purchased
Organic measurements
If the area to be sodded isn’t a conventional shape, calculate the area by segmenting it into any of the true shapes mentioned above. Once you have all of the areas measured, add those numbers together for the total square footage of sod to purchase.
